What is Freebanding?
Freebanding refers to the practice of operating radio equipment on frequencies outside the standard CB (Citizen's Band) allocation. This includes:
- Extended CB frequencies (25.615-26.065 MHz)
- Freeband frequencies (26.065-27.405 MHz)
- 10-meter amateur radio frequencies (28.000-29.700 MHz)
Freebanding allows operators to communicate over longer distances and access more channels than traditional CB radio.
What is DX?
DX stands for "Distance" and refers to long-distance radio communications. In the context of CB/Freeband radio:
- Local communications are typically within 10-50 miles
- DX communications can span hundreds or thousands of miles
- DX conditions depend on solar activity and atmospheric conditions
- DX operators often use specialized equipment and techniques
DXing is a popular hobby among radio enthusiasts who enjoy making contacts with operators in distant locations.
